Went to the movies and watched "The Fantastic Mr. Fox." I went in not expecting much but I was suprised. One of the best movies ive seen in awhile. And for those who think the art/animation style is crappy, they purposefully made it look like that and it actually looks really good when your watching the whole movie.

Law abiding citizen. It was suspenseful, action packed, kept me guessing(which is something big for me!) and had just enough gore without being outrageous with it. A great guy movie.

.__. I want to see it, and I'm not a guy...

:P

I've been too busy to go to the movies, but Hallmark is having their Christmas movie marathon all through December, so I've been watching a lot of holiday movies lately. I can't wait to catch Jingle All the Way--that's probably my favorite Christmas flick. So, SO amusing...

I just saw 'Brothers' yesterday. It's pretty good (Natalie Portman's acting is actually TOLERABLE! -gasp-) It's pretty much your standard family drama, but the performances are what really pull it together into an outstanding experience. Parker finally takes off his mask, and even Bubble-Boy rode down from Brokeback Mountain (ceasing his chase for the Zodiac killer) to make a nice little appearance. Overall, its a nice piece of cinema. You've probably seen it before in like 1 million different coats of pain, but Its still something worth seeing.....maybe a rental, or a matinee showing.

I always thought the casting for that movie was good, when I first saw McGuire and gylenhal(sp?) in the first respective movies I thought they were brothers before I knew their names.

I'm just gonna throw this out there, but don't pay full price to see Armored.  It was origional, more than most movies lately, but the goodness prity much stoped there.  A couple of chase scenes, two explosions, not realy enough action for a movie without any female characters.  Its worth seeing... eventually, but don't rush

2012.. I gotta say, amazing movie.. I thought it was hilarious how Chiwetel Ejiofor[Adrian], from Serenity was in it, and how he played a completely opposite character. Honestly, I don't believe in the myth, and yes I know the movie wasn't necessarily supporting it, but nonetheless! Really good movie, kept me on the edge of my seat. Scared the crap out of me though, how like the entire land masses were just destroyed...
-shudders-
BUT YEAH! Amazing movie. :)

Watched Avatar yesterday in 3D. Before seeing the movie I laughed a little at people who said the movie made them severely depressed. I figured how could a movie that looks great but the story probably sucks make anyone depressed.

When I walked out of the theater after seeing it I kind of felt like a jerk for thinking that before. When I left the theater I was in a really happy mood because the movie was much better than I thought it would be. Sure the story had major parts missing from it but at the end I really didn't care (which is odd because I usually hate movies that have a broken storyline).  After awhile though I was really bummed out. I dont think it was because I wished Pandora was real (alot of people are getting depressed about that fact) but something about the movie really struck home for me.

Just goes to show ya I guess. It's not right to judge something without first understanding it.

Ive seen avatar twice (cause that's just what I do) not in 3D and I'm still very impressed.  I'll agree that the story was just an exadgerated re-telling of the european conquest of north america, but I haven't seen enough native american movies for that to bother me.  I think the story developed itself well, the digital work was incredible, and that the concept of a paralized man taking over a new body (that walks) was awesome.  If you go into that movie with an open mind, its orgasmic.

Only problems I had with it are:
1) I would've liked to see him wrestle the dragon into submission.  He just... does, like it was easy.  Could've been an awesome scene
2) I'm cool with the whole "intertwining network of trees" thing, but when people's souls are traveling from body to body via that network, that's a little too much.

You should really see it in 3D. In the IMAX theaters if you can. At times while watching the movie I forgot I was in the movie theater and not in the movie. Thats how much this new real D 3D tech immerses you into the movie. I can't wait for other people to take advantage of real D 3D in other movies.

I saw it in IMAX 3D (If a movie is being presented in 3d, there's almost no reason to see it in any other format unless they just dont have the enhanced experience where you are) From a Graphical and Cinematic standpoint, the movei is Phenomenal. Other than that......meh.

Yeah, I've gotta admit James Cameron is amazing with all his films. Avatar even beat out Titanic! But yeah, I saw Avatar a few weeks ago with my boyfriend and his guy friends.. OH MY WORD... No words can describe it! One of my favorite movies ever now.

Uhm, also saw Sherlock Holmes.. Gotta say, it was good.. but Robert Downey Jr. wasn't as amazing as he could be in that.. In Ironman, he was.. AMAZING.. Sherlock Holmes.. not so much. Also, did anyone else notice that Watson was different?! Wasn't he supposed to be Holmes' lackey? Either way, I'd give it a 8/10.

This is hilarious, but I've been rediscovering my childhood by introducing my son to Alvin and the Chipmunks (the original animated series and movies). So we've been watching The Chipmunk Adventure movie this past week. I still love it, too, even though I'm not five years old anymore... XD

My grandma and I sat down and watched The Princess Diaries this weekend. Not the greatest movie in the world, but it's cute (and it won't give my poor grandma a heart attack to watch it). I kinda wish they'd stayed true to the books when they did the movie, though. But it's hard to imagine Julie Andrews as an evil old grandmother with her eyeliner tattooed on. XD

see I didnt go see the switch. Don't get me wrong I'm a fan of all the stars in it I just couldnt get past one thing:

Hypochondria isn't hereditary!!!

it's a mental disorder at best (I just see it as more of a personality trait, like some people are over cautious or perfectionists) brought on by certain mental stimuli you aren't born with it, and the kid wouldnt have it unless Jenn's character was one too and raised him to be afraid of germs and being sick.

Well, my cousins and I went to see Black Swan yesterday. Not my first choice of movies, but then I was just along for the ride, and I never complain about a free movie. XD

I liked the movie, overall. I think that Natalie Portman did a credible job playing the ballerina-gone-crazy... and I'm kind of impressed that she did most of her character's dancing herself, instead of using her stunt double for everything. Talk about an intense workout. Still, I wasn't completely satisfied at the end of the story, and I can't put my finger on why. It just feels like there's a piece missing, somewhere.

And as a side note: WTF kind of idiot parent would take little kids (under the age of 5) to see this movie? Seriously. Not appropriate, on SO many levels!!

Title: Re: Seen Anything Good Lately?
Post by: th31r1shguy on January 07, 2011, 09:44:15 pm
lol, thats just bad parenting.  If you've studied any amount of psych, or know anything about psychological disorders (expecially dissasotieative feug/ identity) Black swan will blow your brains all over that theatre like a 12 gauge.  If not, its still an enjoyable psycho-thriller with a smidge of lesbian action.  Just don't try to comprehend what's going on.  It does get a little predictable, but only like 4 minutes in advance

Bad parenting. The understatement of the year. XD

Most of the movie didn't bother me, really. But. The thing with her hands, and her fingers (and her fingernails)... Yeeeeeesh. That had me cringing.

Yeah... that was a bit unnerving. And considering how extreme her personality was, I kind of wonder if that was another hallucination, or if it actually happened. Because Beth was not entirely sane, either. XD

I'm thinking that the point she did stab herself was a hallucination, just as her stabbing Lucy (i think that's what her name was and if not it is now >:D) was just a projection of her conquering her inner fears about her inadequacy. The one part that sticks out in my mind, and actually made me jump a little in my seat was the tub scene. Right after she goes under, and the blood drips down and then... -BAM- O__O It wasn't so much the suddenness of it all, more so it was a combination of the lighting to cast the shadow over her, and the way she smiled...

Title: Re: Seen Anything Good Lately?

haha I went to go see the movie with my two best friends who are like my brothers and we agreed that even though it was a psychological horror there were some genuine funny moments that we couldn't help but laugh at. "I've got some homework for you....I want you to go home, and touch yourself." XD I think I loved how out of left field the movie came at you sometimes with it's profanity like "Yeah I said it, so what?" But the scene that had us all three of us jump back was the scene with her in her bed by herself....you know which one. >>

Haha we only jumped back because of the sudden prescence of the mom and how we felt like we just got caught XD haha

It probably was a hallucination (although Beth was kinda nutso too), but I love how they didn't actually tell you whether or not it really happened. When she "stabbed" Lily (yes, I went and looked up her name lol), they turned around and disproved it when she finished the second act and Lily came to tell her how awesome she was. They never did that with Beth. XD

But the scene that had us all three of us jump back was the scene with her in her bed by herself....you know which one. >>

I swear, when she rolled over and saw her mom there, my cousins and I all looked at each other and had the exact same thought: "Instant cold shower."

Seriously though, for all of the things that were said during the movie, I think some of the background things that they didn't just come straight out and say were just as interesting. Like her relationship with her mom. That was all kinds of messed up. That a girl her age would still be living in a room all decked out for a little kid, with no lock on her door, with a total fruitcake for a mother... yeah, not healthy.

Title: Re: Seen Anything Good Lately?
Post by: th31r1shguy on January 13, 2011, 07:07:28 pm
The mother had her own attatchment-identity issues.  She very easily could have been coddling her daughter and putting her into balerina school because she failed as a balerina.

I would call dissasociative feug/identity (alter ego) for the halucination stuff though.  Hollywood, unfortunatly, works in metaphors for alot of psych movies, so the scenes with said "halucinations" could have been her alter trying to break through.  Think about the lipstick on the mirror in the begining.  Did the other girl go into the bathroom and write it?  Was Nina actualy dry heaving into the toilet?  People with this disorder black out while their alter is in control, and it would be interesting to see if the color of the writing matched the color she stole from the dressing room.  And the black swan part at the end; was that the same Nina from the entire movie?  Or did that bad-ass attitude remind anyone else of the Lily projections?

Thats my rant.  As far as the funny parts go, my favorite line in the whole movie was the director saying "That was me seducing you.  It needs to be the other way around."

I personally loved it. And I went into with my friends with the initial thought itd be one of those movies that were "So bad I could get a good laugh from it." and I never imagined how much I'd be wrong. I got ALOT of laughs out of it, but that was just because of some of the ways stuff comes outta left field, B*tch slaps you, and makes you laugh. Perfect example? that old man in the subway car.....you know who I mean >>;

Yes... She insists on not bringing or allowing movies into the house if she considers them "demonic in nature". You can understand my frustration.

My grandma gave me that one. I do not plan to watch it. I am not a dog person.

I hit the movies at least once a week lol so I've seen a few. Not too many good movies are going to hit until the summer but I'll drop a few of my favorites this winter.

Tron: Legacy: Amazing. Saw it in 3D, IMAX 3D, and regular. Definitely a great sequel, and kids oriented while keeping all the action for the Old School Tron fans. Not to mention the ENTIRE soundtrack was done by Daft Punk.(They were also IN the movie.)

Faster: C'Mon seriously? The Rock who plays a character who's only known as "Driver", and carries a giant gun while out to look for revenge against his brother's killers?? Do I need to say more??? lol Nah but this was surprisingly good.

The Green Hornet: I actually liked this one. It could've did a little better though. I mean personally I didn't really like the fact that Seth Rogen was the Green Hornet, but the TV show was never about him it was about Kato. Kato, played by Jay Chou, was a very good version of the original played by who we all already know lol.

Green Hornet: Definitely good!

Unknown: Liam Neeson, hell yeah! Although the story line seemed VERY similar to Total Recall, the Sci-fi film about Mars, Liam Neeson was sooo BA. Good plot twists.

I've been watching Legend of the Seeker on Netflix. I like it but my husband's read the book and thinks it's completely wrong.

I saw both Source Code and Insidious over the weekend. I was greatly satisfied by the former, and the latter had an audience that made it all the more interesting to sit and watch with XD.

Oh, same. It was definitely am amazingly genius rendition of Rapunzel. I like how she actually had a reason for having long hair too.

Saw 'Limitless' a few days ago. It really wasn't that impressive. Basically, it's just about and hour and a half of Bradley Cooper looking down on people and getting laid. Isn't that what he does in pretty much EVERY movie?

Saw Green Lantern in 3D this afternoon. It's not horrible, but it's also not anything to write home about (the story is predictable, the dialogue so-so, and the 3D was "okay")... All in all, it's just a very standard superhero movie. But it was still a good summer flick.

There wasn't much on television today (that I was interested in watching), so I took a chance and watched Radio. Glad I did. I really enjoyed it. It's not The Blindside or anything... but it's a good movie. :)

I saw X-Men: First Class a couple weeks ago with my brother. It was pretty good, if you enjoy the X-Men movies.

Saw Transformers: Dark of the Moon in Imax. Pretty decent film, but horrid use of the Imax screen in that it really doesn't use the full effects of the technology (much like 2 did in certain scenes, or the entirety of Avatar). All in all, enjoyable summer blockbuster, and only seminally retarded.

The best film I saw recently was The Talented Mr Ripley. I'm struggling to think of a way to recommend it. It is probably the saddest film I have seen in my lifetime. I wouldn't miss it for anything.

Was thoroughly annoyed with the liberties they took with the "epilogue" for the HP series. What about Teddy?

That's because you have yet to see 9or even read, for that matter) The Road.Seriously, dude, when are you going to get around to that?

I saw Horrible Bosses the other week, and that was fantastic.  It rivaled the Hangover in my mind.  Also, Rubber was the most ingenously rediculous movie I've seen in a long time.  If you haven't seen it, it's on the Netflix instant watch under foreign or comedy.  (and no, it's not about condoms.  its about a car tire)

I've been meaning to get around to watching Rubber since I first saw a trailer for it about a year ago. Also under the same vein of gritty ridiculous movies, I recently had a chance to see the masterfully disastrous 'Hobo with a Shotgun.' This movie is the epitome of grindhouse cinema, meaning it's terrible, but for all the right reasons.

I have been meaning to watch this for months now. My friend keeps forgetting to get it to me.
