^_^;;; I was actually going to make a thread for all of my Tale Untold doodles after I had more things to put up... but I guess you got the jump on me, Duama.

I'll see if I can't get Xi's character sketch sheet up later today, as long as the scanner cooperates.

And since we have a thread for this now, I suppose I can post up the sketch page of Xira's character, Kari~

I like how she came out, although I had a lot of trouble with the graphite smudging. ^_^;;;

Ha ha, I threw in the chibi with Duama's and liked it so much, I'm drawing chibis for everyone. Beware Irish... you're next. :thumbsup:

Thank you! I actually wasn't going for "timid" exactly... I just wanted something that had a lot of "cute" to it (as opposed to your character, who thinks he's such a badass).

well thats because he is such a badass. Show of hands for the character that can fly AND shoot a hyperbeam from their mouth

Fantastical Awesomeness!!  :heart:
You did an amazing job capturing various emotions on her faces. And her hair turned out just like how I imagined it. You even got the fancy celtic design on her dress, so nice!

I was really worried that I wouldn't get her right... especially the dress. Although that's technically not a celtic design, because I didn't copy it exactly off of the picture. I just drew lines and swirlies until it looked pretty. >.<;;

Weeell, that page is in-progress too... but I'd like to get the sketches for James and Ahriana out before I post my own character sheet. It's much harder for me to draw for other people, because I never know if I'm going to get it exactly "right"... whereas it's pretty darn easy to draw my own characters, because I know what I want. Sooo... Need to finish the harder characters first, before I cater to self-indulgence and finish mine. ^_^;;

AHA! I finally finished the character sheet for James. Sorry it took so long, Irish... he was a hard one to draw. >.<;

(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t93/Kadri-chan/My%20Art/JamesSketches001.jpg)

I had a lot of fun with those expressions, though. Hopefully I got him pretty close to character here. XD

(And sheesh. I thought I had smudging problems with Kari's page... Well James was even worse! I need to dig out my sealer and spray these things.)

Yay! I'm really glad you like it, since it took so damn long to finish and post. I had soooo much fun on those faces, though. XD

And yeah... I absolutely could not leave Raikou out... I can totally see that face-off happening during the RP.

Thanks a bunch, Shadow! Although I have to admit--I didn't do these completely out of my head. I PM'ed everyone before I started and asked for any character info that was different from the pictures they posted in the OOC thread (hairstyle, clothes, etc)... but I have taken some artistic license along the way. :)

I'm working on the character sheets for Ahrianna and Ava right now. Ava's is almost done, and hopefully Ahri's won't be very far behind (since I want to post Ava last). They're coming along pretty well so far, and I've even started some (very) rough sketches for a group picture... but who knows how long that will take to finish. XD

It really is too bad you left the RP before things really got going. It has all the makings to become something really epic. I've been having a lot of fun with it so far, and I can't wait to see where it will go next. ^^

Kadri i can't wait to see them, and the group picture i am picturing just from the drawings you have put up seems like it would be amazing. and i am looking forward to see them.

and duama i have noticed that my life has calmed down and i probably could get back into actual rp'ing so we will see if i can get caught up on all that has happened since i have left and if i can find a suitable way to throw myself back in there without disrupting the story... well that is if people even want me to come back, which i would understand if they didnt.

Yeah, at first I was just planning a very simple group picture (before James was revealed in the story as the bad guy and whatnot) with the priests all standing together... but then I started the character sheets to get in some practice... and now the entire "group picture" in my head has evolved into this massively awesome picture.

I will be very happy if I can get it half as good as what's in my head... because it's gotten kind of complicated. XD

If you really wanted to rejoin the RP, I don't think anyone will have any major objections... although a LOT has gone on since you dropped out, so you'll have quite a bit of catching up to do as far as who's who and what's what (but we can help you with that). And I will warn you--we're planning to take this story all the way to the end and finish it... so if you end up rejoining as a major character you're going to be in for the long haul.

your technique is awesome, you also have a strong grasp on value. somethin i'll probably never feel comfortable with. these sketches also have alot of personality in them, you can really feel what type of person he is.

oh, and you do know that you've started a friendly art competition between us with these doodles that you post up right? there will be no walking away from this either  :bat:

I've always liked working with values. When I started learning to draw, the majority of my work was in graphite... so I had a lot of practice with it before I really even knew what I was doing.

And I'm glad you can see some personality in these sketches. I've been trying to keep the characters in mind all along, so it makes me happy that some of that is coming through after all.

And um... friendly art competition? o__O;

and she just keeps swinging back :o

its epic! omg I just threw my hands up at the picture and nearly fell back in my seat. where to start..the first picture on the left, the proportions are perfect. not to mention how the clothing detailed combined with the hair all just flows together so smoothly. the pose on the very right corner is kinda tricky but you pulled it off perfectly. really shows off her personality, all the poses do truthfully.

not to mention as I said, i'm a fan of full figured lips. I think the only people who profit from this little competition are the members of NA. *sigh*. guess its back to the drawing boards...literally.

Stop it~ -waves hand- You're making me blush~

But seriously. Thanks for all of the commentary! To be perfectly honest, I actually referenced some of the faces so I could get the angles and proportions right (and the pose in the top right corner was also referenced)... but when I posted the picture I was tired and rushing to get it up, so I forgot to post my references. -will go back and edit the post in a minute to do that- XD

I am super-proud of this page, though. Especially the chibi (is it weird for me to say that?). That pose was kind of an accident, and it ended up so cute! XD

(And, I like drawing full-figured lips, so you'll likely see more of that in the future.)

I think the only people who profit from this little competition are the members of NA. *sigh*. guess its back to the drawing boards...literally.

Ha ha~ it doesn't have to be a competition, you know. <3

Soooo, unfortunately I'm stuck on Ava's character sheet. It doesn't want to translate from my head to the paper. However, I lucked upon a really nice stock photo while I was hunting for references and it has inspired the first of several "group" pictures I have in mind. (It's a graphite drawing, but the only scanner I have to work with right now is old and crappy so I had to touch it up a bit in Photoshop.)

From left to right: Ahri, Kari, and Ava

Thanks for the costume suggestion, Xi. ;)

I'm glad you like it. =D

I was flipping through some of my old MKR art books right before I started this one, and it was just like, "Hey, I should make a picture just for the Tale Untold girls!"

Of course, there are also tons of other drawing ideas floating around in my brain (to keep the plot bunnies company). I think we may end up having 3-4 "group" drawings by the time my inspiration runs out... not to mention all of the other random chibis and whatnot. I just have to find time between homework to draw them.

Fan-freakin'-tastic! We so look like we're in charge.  :thumbsup:

Pfft. I had fun looking up tavern wench clothing on Google and figuring out who was wearing what. I'm so glad you suggested the bar-maid clothes... it totally pulled the picture together there at the end (when I was having so much trouble deciding on costumes).

Ha ha, you'd have to ask Xi about how close the time period in Tale Untold is to the "corset period"... because I'm not entirely sure. I was aiming for either Renaissance or fantasy-esque clothes in this one, although I considered Art Nouveau style before Xi suggested the tavern wench garb. XD

Glad you like it. Now I just need to get back to the other group pictures I'm working on. :)

I didn't realize this was taking place at the same time as the corset.  Nonetheless the group picture looks great!
The setting is a medieval world (says so in the second post of the OOC). So yeah, I guess bodices and corsets would have been pretty common place.

I thought the corset was colonial, like 1700's.  Guess not...

Corsets under the clothing became fashionable in that time. In Medieval times it was worn over the clothing if at all.

Supposedly, corsets were attributed to Catherine de'Medici in the mid 1500's, because she enforced a ban on "thick waists" at court attendance. And before they became known as corsets, they were called "stays." And I don't know how far back the history of stays goes.

this is so unfair -_-...I should of atleast got a amestry week where you ease up a little. the drawings are wonderful, as you well know. even though their in similar outfits the girls all have their own identities. I feel like its almost useless to compliment your work anymore, the conversion will always go around the just of

well, my pen came in the mail the other day, so as SOON as I come to from being hung over from this halloween weekend i'm swinging back with vengeance!!

Ha ha~ Sorry Munky... I don't really plan when a drawing is going to be finished anymore. I just work in my sketchbook during the evenings, when I have time, and whenever something gets done... it's done. ^^;;

the drawings are wonderful, as you well know. even though their in similar outfits the girls all have their own identities.

Yeah, when I'm doing group pictures (especially in graphite or monochromatic colors), I've found that it's easier to express the characters personalities through their expressions and poses than through their clothes. Of course, I don't want to draw everyone in the same outfit, but I like to have them all wearing something similar, and then tailor the details too the characters. If they're all wearing vastly different outfits, and there's a bunch of characters and a bunch of different poses, it feels like the drawings get cluttered. But that's just my personal opinion. XD

I feel like its almost useless to compliment your work anymore, the conversion will always go around the just of

well, my pen came in the mail the other day, so as SOON as I come to from being hung over from this halloween weekend i'm swinging back with vengeance!!

^^;; This isn't a competition, you know. I really like getting feedback from you--especially since you're an artist too... And if you see something screwy in one of my drawings, I can always count on you to give it to me straight.

~

I've also finally, finally finished the character sheet for Ava. (Gosh, that took forever.) I'm really pleased with the way it turned out, although I had to darken the lines after I scanned it to the computer... I so hope I can get a new scanner/printer for Christmas. I think this one is about to croak. >.<;

Nice, you did a good job on her curly hair. I think though that Entei's face is actually more flat than that. His general physique looks a little off, but other than that, very nice.  :heart:

No it's not. His face as a whole is actually pretty flat because his fore-head is so pronounced.

We're not going to start an argument over how flat or pronounced Entei's face is, are we? :eh?:

Nice, you did a good job on her curly hair. I think though that Entei's face is actually more flat than that. His general physique looks a little off, but other than that, very nice.  :heart:

Yeah... I added Entei at the very end, after I'd already covered 95% of the page in sketching. I was more concerned with not smudging the rest of the paper (but I didn't want to leave him out entirely, since I've added the Legendaries to all of the other character sheets), so I really half-assed it. It's not easy to draw while angling your wrist so it's not brushing against the paper. ^^;

I definitely made his profile more pronounced than it should have been... although I got interrupted by Ava's foot, and it mucked everything up. XD

I don't think you can comment on his general physique though, Xi, since I only drew a small portion of his face. :P

I'm glad I managed to pull off the curly hair, though. Between the shading in Ahri's hair and Ava's curls, I'm going to kill my hands. -.-

Thanks. I actually have 2 or 3 "group" things in the works right now... but I'm coming up on the final paper in my English class, so there's no telling how long it will take to finish any of them yet. x__x;

Oh my art teacher taught me a trick for that, just place another piece of paper under your drawing hand, and it allows it to slide along the paper over what you've already drawn without smudging it.
I don't think you can comment on his general physique though, Xi, since I only drew a small portion of his face. :P
You know what I meant, face and neck structure. I'm an anthro/creature artist so I pick up on these things. Especially with felines.

I'll bet. That's a lot of work. I've always had a horrible time with curly hair, and I only recently started to experiment with wavy.
And on a second good look at it (I'm not sure if it's intentional or not but) her hair looks to be a bit frizzy. I think maybe if you experiment with adding a little less detail to it that may fix that. However if it's intentional then fantabulous. ^.^

Yeah, I know that trick (and I've been using it)... but it's not a 100% positive guarantee against smudging. I prefer to work with really soft graphite, and the paper helps somewhat... but it still smudges. =/

Yes well, I'm the English freak... and when someone says physique, it generally refers to the muscular structure of the entire body... not the face (which is what I drew). :P

I.. don't really see what you mean about the frizz... so I'll just say: I am perfectly satisfied with how the hair came out, and that is exactly how I meant it to look.

Ah, that would explain why your lines are always so nice and dark then. Do you know the rating on your lead? (B2, B4, ect...)

I just kind of use it as an all purpose term for the general anatomy of a creature/person.

Yes, I really like the softer graphite when I'm drawing. The majority of my work used to be pencil only, so I'm used to doing extensive all-over shading. All of the drawings I've done for Tale Untold have much more shading detail in person, actually... but my scanner is so horrible that only the darker bits show up. -.-

And I'll dig out my art supplies tomorrow and let you know what the ratings on my pencils are--I can't remember off the top of my head, and I've already put everything up for the day. XD

Cool beans. I used to do pencil work using a variety of different leads, but the softer ones would break too easily in my purse. So I found this super expensive Japanese mechanical pencil and I love it to death. I guard that thing viciously because they don't make my model anymore.

XD No offense, but the proper English part of my brain just shuddered when I read that.
None taken. I pick on my "writer" friend all the time for major glaring typos and tense mistakes and what not. I sometimes wonder if he even reads what he types.

Ha ha~ Do you have curly hair?
In real life? Yeah I guess you'd say so. Not super curly, but more of a frizzy wave....on a clean day. It always looks better after having slept on it a night. :P

Wow it once again is great although im not going to lie for some reason something seems a bit off to me. Im not exactly sure what it is though. I mean over all it is amazing it looks great like the rest of them do but when i look at each picture individually, i get the feeling that something just doesnt add up like either something is missing or something just didnt transfer from one picture to the next. I think the one im talking about is the one on the right side in the middle.

Then again i am no artist and therefore can't really judge.

If we're just talking Ava (I know I screwed up on Entei already), I think maybe she looks a bit older in the on the one you're talking about? At least, compared to the other sketches of her. Or it could be the angle I drew her face at, or her expression? I dunno.

(Sorry if I'm a little incoherent... I'm all doped up on allergy medicine right now, and my brain feels a little fuzzy.)

Finally finished Jacob's character sheet. Whew. I wish it hadn't taken so long... but I'm very pleased with the way it turned out (with exception to the smudging, which my new scanner picks up wayyy too easily). Drawing/pose references can be found below.

Hope this was worth the wait, Shadow. Consider it a Christmas present? XD

Also... totally doing a double-post here, but I promised Dua and Xi that I'd put up the Christmas doodles I did over the break (after I finished the last one). So without further ado... XD

The first drawing, requested by Dua, that started the whole thing:

(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t93/Kadri-chan/My%20Art/Mistletoe5.jpg)

Which, in turn, led to this one of the girls singing carols...:

(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t93/Kadri-chan/My%20Art/PrettyCarolers1.jpg)

Which finally spawned this (extremely aggravating) group picture of the chibi carolers (plus one Grinch):

(http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t93/Kadri-chan/My%20Art/ChibiCaroling.jpg)

XD The chibis were a complete hassle (none of the guys would behave)... but I think it's my favorite out of the lot of them. (Kari kind of inspired this one, after I drew the first caroling picture of just the girls. For some reason, I can just see her getting into the holiday spirit and dragging everyone else into it with her. lol)

Soooo... yeah. No references used, btw. It's a miracle. XD

I did have a lot of fun with the chibi expressions... though my expression probably matched Dua's by the time I finished drawing him. He was the last to be finished, and he was a pain in the freaking ass. (As you well know.) And as for Jacob, yeah... the shyness... and I had a feeling he would've been like, "What the hell am I doing??" if we'd randomly decided "Hey, let's go caroling!" XD

no idea how these drawings of yours snuck  pass me, usually have a built in spider-sense when it comes to your art posting.

I'm really glad that the cuteness factor in my style (wow, I have a style? XD) isn't completely disgusting, and that you can still see some hint of maturity... particularly in my Christmas art. I like to do "cute" (chibis, shoujo, etc), but I generally have trouble drawing ultra sugary-sweet, cavity-inducing things. It just doesn't work for me. >>;

I'll have to practice. XD

And yes... I love how Shadow's character sheet came out. I feel like I'm improving with each sheet I finish. Although the smudging in Shadow's (in particular) really bothers me, and I still want to re-scan it and replace it with a better quality image whenever I have time. -perfectionist-

Awww, thank you so much Shadow! ^^

I love how the group picture came out, too. (I just wish I'd shrunk the image slightly so that you didn't have to scroll sideways to see James at the very end. ^^;) I definitely need to draw a non-chibi group picture soon... and a picture of all of the male characters together, since I've done two now of just the girls... as well as a couple of other projects I have in mind... XD

...I have wayyy too many ideas for ATU...

I'm also glad I was able to capture part of Jacob's personality in the drawing. I think I have a pretty good handle on him now. And his hair is really fun to draw, for some reason. XD

Umm... wow, I completely fell off the wagon here. I didn't mean to just randomly stop drawing ATU fanart. :oops:

Although technically, I've been doodling since I did the holiday sketches... I've just been having a hard time getting any completed pictures. I've done three or four drafts of a total group picture that had to be scrapped (for various reasons), and the same goes for a picture of just the guys all together. Sigh.

Anyway, I'm kind of hoping that this picture will chip away at the ATU-Art-Block currently taking up space in my brain... because I like drawing these characters. So, here you go~

Yeah, the facial shadows aren't exact, but I didn't have a lighting reference to go by and it was probably about midnight when I finished the sketch... so I'm not fussed about it. Although technically, I'm not sure if the orb IS emitting light. XD

So I have some good news, and then I have some bad news... :roll:

Good news: I have a finished drawing of Kari to put up, and I have two group pictures (one of Irish's three henchmen characters) that are currently in-progress.

Bad news: I don't have access to a scanner while we're in the hospital... so I have to wait until I get home to scan and post the new stuff. And we could be here for another 2 weeks (or longer), depending on how fast Bug bounces back from the chemo.

On the bright side, I should have plenty of time to finish the two WIPs. XD

lol, well it's good you're using your downtime productively. ^^

Hopefully the little man will start getting better soon so you can take him home. I'm sure he'll recover better if he's in a more comfortable environment. :3

lmao... Well, I have to do something in the wee hours of the morning when no one else is awake. XD

It's going to be a while before we get to go home, because Bug's counts need to come back up before the doctor will talk about releasing him. We've got at least another week or two to go.

Yeah... so those two WIPs are still in-progress... >>;

But I'll get back to work on them later today, so (hopefully) I should be able to finish them before the end of this month. I'm feeling inspired.

In the meantime, I finally got around to scanning that picture of Kari... so here it is:

Simply amazing, Kadri. But then I've come to expect nothing less from you. ^^
You always to manage to find amazing stock for reference too. I'm a little envious of that skill. :P

Glad you like it. :)

I started "collecting" stock a while back... Now, any time I come upon something that I like (a pose, a particular facial angle, an action shot, etc), I save it to my stock folder. And I've gathered quite a few pictures just during the time I started drawing ATU fanart... I've probably got three or four hundred images on my flash drive now, and I'd say at least a third or a fourth of them came from hunting ATU references. Not that I've used all of them--but I found them, so I saved them. It's a handy folder to hunt through when I need some extra inspiration.

Woooow, that's a lot of images. O.o
Collecting them is a really good idea though. I've always just gone to posemaniacs, but their selection of poses is sadly limited, and searching stock on DA take a lot of time and sifting. Maybe I'll borrow your idea of just hording it in a folder for when I need it. ^^;

Just remember that, if you're saving actual stock images, it's a good idea to save the stock artist's name into the title. Some of the stock artists that I like on deviantART have this crappy habit of deleting their work or putting certain pieces into "storage"... but I try really hard to give them credit, so I try to keep track of which work belongs to which artist.

That is a good thing to do. I intend to try and put a link to the original (or at least the artist's name) in a note within the file itself. If I remember right Windows can do that kind of thing. :3
